Jump Rope for Health

The Jump Rope for Health (JRFH) program encourages the engagement of primary school children in healthy lifestyle activities and informed nutritional meal choices. Both teachers and community volunteers facilitate the program. It combines the simple low cost, indoor/outdoor fun filled physical activity of jumping rope, with an integrated curriculum approach that has the potential of infusing health information and education into other subject areas.
The main purpose of this program is to address the problems associated with Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (CNCD’s). These diseases can arise from unhealthy meal choices, smoking, alcohol use and lack of physical activity. Through this program children can discover the joy of being engaged in a physically active program that is fun, while learning the importance of nutritional meal choices.
To provide children with the opportunity to develop lifelong healthy lifestyle habits through increased participation in jump rope activity and education about health and nutrition.
Target Audience
The Jump Rope for Health program is designed for children between the ages of 5 and 12 years. CSDA offers training for primary school teachers/principals and community members who wish to implement a Jump Rope for Heart program in their school or community.
